Qatar National Sports Day, celebrated annually on the second Tuesday of February, encourages residents to embrace an active lifestyle. This public holiday highlights the importance of fitness by offering a wide range of sports and wellness activities across the country.

History and Purpose

Qatar introduced National Sports Day in 2012 following a decree by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The initiative aligns with Qatar’s Vision 2030, promoting both physical and mental well-being through sports and recreational activities.

Activities and Events

More than 20 sports will be featured across various venues, allowing participants to engage in activities such as football, basketball, tennis, taekwondo, cycling, swimming, and traditional Al Shawahef rowing.

  • Key Locations: Events will take place at popular spots, including Doha Corniche (runs and walks), Aspire Zone (multi-sport activities), Katara Cultural Village (cultural sports events), and Msheireb Downtown Doha (fun run).
  • Special Attractions: Spectators can enjoy thrilling skydiving shows and other unique performances.

  • National Sports Day Holiday – February 11, 2025.
  • Qatar Cyclist Center Cycling Event – February 11, 2025. The ride starts at Education City and ends at the Museum of Islamic Art.
  • Visit Qatar National Sports Day Fun Run (Msheireb) – February 11, 2025.
  • National Sports Day at Education City (Qatar Foundation) – February 10–11, with the main activities scheduled for February 11, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • National Sports Day Night Run (M7 Building) – February 11, 2025 (start time not specified).
  • The Pearl Island & Gewan Island Celebration – February 11, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

These events provide an excellent opportunity for people of all ages and fitness levels to participate in sports, enjoy community engagement, and promote an active lifestyle.

Inclusive Participation

Qatar National Sports Day welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels. Free training sessions, social competitions, and community events ensure everyone can take part. For those unable to attend in person, some organizations offer online fitness challenges to promote virtual engagement.
