Qatar's HMC Initiates Ramadan Campaign for Blood and Organ Donation

Qatar’s Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched its 11th Ramadan blood and organ donation campaign for 2024. This initiative aims to attract organ donors among citizens and residents, focusing on various locations in Doha and other cities.

The campaign includes field campaigns in collaboration with Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation, providing opportunities for blood donation at the City Center Mall and mobile units in different locations like malls, shopping centers, markets, and cultural events.

Dr. Riadh Fadhil, Director of the Qatar Organ Donation Center at HMC, highlighted the success of previous campaigns, noting that the organ donor registry in Qatar has over 530,000 registered donors, representing nearly 25% of the adult population.

The registry includes more than 100 nationalities, showcasing a diverse participation in organ donation efforts. In 2023, there was a significant increase in donors and transplants, with 82 kidney transplants, 11 liver transplants, and 3 lung transplants performed.

The campaign also involves awareness booths where medical staff interact with the public to explain the importance of organ donation and facilitate registration for those interested.

The Qatar National Blood Donation Center is crucial in encouraging blood donors by providing accessible weekly donation opportunities.
