Doha – February 28, 2025: The crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan 1446 AH has been sighted in Qatar, confirming that the holy month will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Qatar’s Moon Sighting Committee, under the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), announced after verifying reports from various observation points across the country. Following the regional moon sighting, Muslims in Qatar and many other nations will begin fasting on Saturday.
Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, is observed with fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayers, and acts of charity. Mosques across Qatar will hold special Taraweeh prayers, and preparations have been made to accommodate worshippers at major Islamic centers.
Government offices, businesses, and schools will adjust their working hours to Ramadan schedules, allowing residents to balance work, worship, and family time. Restaurants and cafés will remain closed during fasting hours, reopening for Iftar and Suhoor gatherings in the evening.
With Ramadan beginning, authorities have urged the community to embrace the spirit of generosity, compassion, and reflection. Special charitable initiatives, including Iftar meal distributions, will be organized to support those in need.
Ramadan will last 29 or 30 days, depending on the next moon sighting, concluding with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
