Qatar has notably advanced in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index, climbing 21 positions to reach 84th place and securing the top spot in the Middle East and North Africa region. This progress reflects Qatar’s commitment to enhancing press freedom and journalism standards.

The World Press Freedom Index is an annual ranking produced by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) that assesses the degree of freedom available to journalists in various countries.

It evaluates factors such as pluralism, media independence, self-censorship, legislative framework, transparency, and the quality of the infrastructure supporting news production.

The index aims to compare the level of press freedom across 180 countries and territories based on the previous year’s data, highlighting the ability of journalists to select, produce, and disseminate news independently and without interference.
