Participants in the recent Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism workshop in Doha stressed the urgent need for stronger international cooperation to address money laundering and related financial crimes.
The workshop, which was organized by Qatar’s Public Prosecution in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Justice and Treasury from October 20 to 23, 2024, included delegates from 16 countries, such as judges and public prosecutors.

International Collaboration: Attorney General Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of sharing expertise among nations to combat financial crimes more effectively. He reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to strengthening its legislative framework and regulatory measures against money laundering and terrorist financing.
Diverse Participation: The event brought together deputy attorneys general, public prosecutors, and officials from various agencies focused on combating financial crimes, highlighting the need for collective efforts to tackle these issues.
Focus Areas: Discussions addressed critical topics, including:
- Best practices in banking supervision
- Trade-based money laundering
- The use of complex financial instruments in illicit activities
- Emerging trends in financial crimes within the Middle East and North Africa region
Training and Capacity Building: The workshop aimed to share knowledge and enhance the capabilities of participating countries, fostering discussions on innovative solutions to current challenges.
The workshop promoted international cooperation and strategy development to curb money laundering, demonstrating a unified global approach to fighting financial crime.
