DOHA, March 18, 2026 — Qatar will celebrate Eid Al-Fitr 1447 AH on Friday, March 20, 2026, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The date follows expected crescent moon visibility patterns, with the Shawwal crescent unlikely to be sighted on Wednesday evening. As a result, Ramadan will complete 30 days across the country.

Crescent Moon Determines Eid Date

In Qatar, the official start of Eid Al-Fitr depends on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.

Astronomical conditions this year indicated that visibility on the 29th night of Ramadan would be difficult. This supports Friday as the confirmed first day of Eid.

Authorities follow established procedures to verify moon sightings before making the final announcement.

Public Holiday in Qatar

Eid Al-Fitr is a major public holiday in Qatar. Government offices, schools, and many private sector businesses will close for several days.

Residents can expect extended holidays, allowing families to celebrate and travel during the festive period.

Eid Traditions Across Qatar

Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

The day begins with Eid prayers held in mosques and open prayer grounds across the country. After prayers, families gather to celebrate with meals and social visits.

Key traditions include:

  • Giving Zakat al-Fitr before Eid prayers
  • Visiting relatives and friends
  • Sharing traditional dishes
  • Exchanging greetings such as Eid Mubarak

Regional Alignment

Qatar is expected to observe Eid on the same day as several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.

However, some countries may celebrate a day later depending on local moon sighting results.

Preparations Underway

Across Doha and other cities, preparations are already in full swing. Shopping centers, markets, and bakeries are seeing increased activity as residents prepare for Eid.

Mosques are also preparing to accommodate large numbers of worshippers for Eid prayers.
