Qatar Airways has announced the reinstatement of its flights following the reopening of Qatar’s airspace, which had been temporarily closed due to regional tensions and a missile strike by Iran on the U.S. military base at Al Udeid. The airline is now focusing on helping passengers return home or continue their journeys safely.
Qatar Airways began restoring its flight schedule immediately after the General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed that air traffic had returned to normal as of early Tuesday, June 24. Additional ground staff have been deployed at Hamad International Airport and other key locations to assist affected travelers and reduce disruptions.
Despite the reopening, the airline has warned of significant delays as operations gradually resume. Passengers are advised to check the Qatar Airways website or mobile app for real-time updates before heading to the airport.
For tickets booked on or before June 23 for travel through June 30, the airline is offering two free reissues valid for travel until July 15, as well as full refunds for affected flights.
The temporary closure of Qatar’s airspace caused widespread disruption across the region. Tens of thousands of passengers were stranded or diverted, with flights rerouted to airports in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Muscat, and even as far as Istanbul and Cairo. Hamad International Airport is currently managing a significant backlog, and officials warn that it may take several days to normalize operations fully.
The airspace closure was implemented as a precaution after Iran’s missile strike, which heightened geopolitical tensions across the region. The resulting flight cancellations and diversions had ripple effects throughout global aviation networks.
Qatar Airways is working closely with authorities and other regional carriers to restore full operations, emphasizing that passenger safety and well-being remain the airline’s top priority. Travelers are advised to remain patient and stay updated on the latest developments through official airline channels.
